The General Academic Strand (GAS) is designed for learners who seek interdisciplinary breadth and flexibility as they prepare for tertiary education or explore career pathways. At Liceo de Davao, our GAS program deepens critical thinking, communication, and research skills through a customized mix of humanities, social sciences, and business fundamentals. By blending theory with real-world applications—such as community surveys and value-driven projects—GAS students cultivate adaptability, creativity, and leadership that align with our mission to nurture well-rounded, purpose-driven graduates.

Program Overview

The GAS Strand empowers students to combine subjects from multiple academic disciplines. This flexibility allows learners to tailor their curriculum based on interests—whether they lean toward education, social work, law, communications, or business. Liceo de Davao enhances the DepEd’s GAS framework with values formation, experiential learning, and leadership opportunities embedded in every course. Class discussions, group research, and capstone projects encourage learners to address local issues, articulate solutions, and deliver presentations that benefit both campus and community.

Specialized Subjects
  • Humanities 1: Creative Writing and Cultural Literacy
Students explore various genres—poetry, short stories, and essays—while studying Philippine literature and global narratives. Emphasis is placed on creative expression, critical reading, and the craft of storytelling.
  • Humanities 2: Media & Contemporary Arts
This course delves into contemporary Philippine arts, media analysis, and cultural studies. Learners evaluate films, visual arts, and digital media, examining how culture shapes identity and social values.
  • Social Science 1: Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences
An introduction to sociology, anthropology, and political science. Students investigate human behavior, social structures, and governance models, applying qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups.
  • Social Science 2: Community Engagement and Citizenship
Building on theoretical foundations, this subject focuses on civic responsibility, solidarity, and service. Participants design and implement outreach activities—like literacy drives and environmental workshops—in nearby barangays.
  • Applied Economics

  • Organization and Management
Covering fundamentals of organizational behavior, leadership, and strategic planning, this course equips students to manage projects, work in teams, and understand how decisions impact stakeholders.
  • Elective 1 & Elective 2
GAS students may choose two additional subjects from any Academic Track or TVL Strand—such as Principles of Marketing, Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction, or Introduction to STEM topics—further customizing their learning journey.
  • Work Immersion / Research / Culminating Activity
In their final year, GAS learners undertake a supervised immersion or research project in a local institution, NGO, or business. This capstone experience strengthens professional readiness and portfolio development.
